From December 8 to 10, CIIIC was present at UnitedXR Europe in Brussels – to connect the Dutch immersive experience community with the international IX field, in collaboration with partners like ROM Utrecht and EIT Culture & Creativity.

With a booth at the Dutch Pavilion and a full program of breakfast sessions, pitches, and networking moments, we hope to have contributed to new and stronger connections between IX professionals from the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.

Breakfast Sessions with EIT Culture & Creativity

Each morning began with a breakfast session, organized in collaboration with EIT Culture & Creativity. On Monday, December 9, we explored The Power of International Collaboration: Reimagining XR Distribution in Heritage Spaces, with contributions from Nina Boelsums (VPRO Medialab) and Vincent Slangen (ENTR).

The next day focused on From R&D Breakthroughs to Industry Workflows, with an emphasis on how research translates into practical applications. Both sessions welcomed participants from the CIIIC team, EIT, exhibitors, and the ROM Utrecht delegation.

Meet the Dutch Creators

During Meet the Dutch Creators at the EMIC Pitch Stage, five speakers presented their work, showcasing the breadth of the Dutch IX sector – from artistic experiments to applied research and commercial innovation. Many thanks to the speakers: Natasja Paulssen, Aram Balian, Alex Tavassoli, Robin Coops, Ian Biscoe, and Amilius Sylar!

The pitches were followed by a joint lunch where participants could connect with the creators and discuss possible collaborations.

Networking and Community Building

In addition to the formal program, there were various opportunities for the Dutch IX community to meet each other and speak with international partners. ROM Utrecht organized a lunch and reception at the Dutch embassy on December 8, including a visit to a healthcare institution that employs XR. On Tuesday evening, a Dutch-Flemish networking reception brought together participants from both countries, followed by a joint dinner at the Gare Maritime food hall.

We also set up a mini studio where we could have conversations with visitors about opportunities and challenges in the IX sector and reflect on public values. We will share this content in the coming weeks.

There were more highlights than we can mention. But a special shout-out to Vincent Slangen, who won the 'Best in Show: Playground & Showcase' award with ENTR at UnitedXR Europe. Congratulations!

Many thanks to everyone who contributed, including of course our partners ROM Utrecht and EIT Culture & Creativity, the UnitedXR organization, the Dutch IX community present, and the media team!
