Are you a researcher working on the societal impact of immersive experiences (IX)? And do you want to team up with businesses, governments or civil society organisations to develop new knowledge about public values such as privacy and sustainability? Then the new CIIIC PRO funding scheme could be just what you're looking for. CIIIC PRO funds research into the effects of immersive experiences on public values. Up to €700,000 in funding is available per project, and around five projects are expected to be awarded.

Research into the public values of IX

Immersive experiences bring digital technology and the physical world together, for example through augmented reality, mixed reality or virtual reality. These technologies offer opportunities for innovation, learning, work and societal impact. IX also raise questions about public values, such as inclusion, safety, privacy, autonomy and wellbeing.

CIIIC PRO supports research that provides insight into the effects of IX on these values. The funding is intended for research projects that develop validated knowledge, methods and practical guidance for the responsible design, application and scaling of IX. Research into the role of AI within immersive experiences also falls within the scope of the funding scheme.

Projects can run for up to four years. The focus is on developing knowledge and tools that help organisations factor public values into the policy, design, development and application of IX. The research projects help organisations assess risks, strengthen positive effects and embed public values more firmly in their way of working. In doing so, the funding scheme contributes to responsible innovation and to a strong Dutch IX sector.
