Looking to the future of Artistic and Design Research for Immersive Experiences

News
15 Jun 2026

In 2025, CIIIC and Stimuleringsfonds launched the Artistic & Design Research for Immersive Experiences (ADRIE) grant. The grant is intended for consortia of makers, producers, institutions, and researchers working on the development and application of immersive experiences through artistic and design research within a two-year activity program. In this article, we look ahead to 2028 and 2029 and discuss other calls of interest in the meantime.

What has already taken place?

In 2025 and 2026, new consortia were given the opportunity to apply for the Artistic & Design Research for Immersive Experiences (ADRIE) grant. Five consortia have already been selected and are now working on the implementation of their two-year activity programs.

Next phase

The next application opportunities for the ADRIE scheme are expected to follow in 2028 and 2029. Based on these rounds, we hope to once again support a maximum of ten consortia in the realization of two-year activity programmes, the implementation of which will take place in 2029-2030 or 2030-2031. This is not yet definitively set, as the implementation depends on funding for the second phase of CIIIC from the National Growth Fund.

In the meantime

In the meantime, CIIIC offers opportunities for consortia interested in applying to ADRIE in 2028 or 2029. In 2026 and 2027, Regieorgaan SIA will implement three calls focusing on practice-oriented research by researchers at universities of applied sciences, universities, and other research institutions in collaboration with SMEs and/or public organizations.

These calls may be of interest to consortia wishing to submit an application for ADRIE and wanting to conduct preliminary research beforehand. The calls may also be of value to already supported consortia if the implementation of an activity program under ADRIE has shown that further research is required. An overview of the SIA calls:

  • CIIIC Start
This scheme encourages short-term, exploratory research into the effectiveness and responsible use of IX and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2027.
  • CIIIC Kern
CIIIC Kern focuses on demand-driven, practice-oriented research into the deployment or application of IX in SMEs and the public sector. The scheme is expected to open in the first quarter of 2027.
  • CIIIC Pro
This scheme is intended for four-year research into the effects of IX and is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
