Three new Steering Committee members of CIIIC

News

During the first CIIIC Annual Meet-Up yesterday at the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam, four new members of the proposed Steering Committee for CIIIC were announced, namely creators Yannick B. Boers and Corine Meijers, and professor Joost Raessens. Interim chairman Jann C de Waal will remain in position for the time being.

About the members the Minister of OCW intends to appoint:

Yannick Boers is a driven entrepreneur and creative strategist with a passion for technology and social impact. As the founder of Boldly-XR, he specializes in developing interactive XR experiences for education, the cultural sector, and business. His work has been awarded multiple times, including Lovie Awards, Webby Awards, and Emerce Awards, establishing him as a pioneer in his field.

As the founder and creative producer at Studio Biarritz, Corine Meijers has released numerous award-winning projects, such as Symbiosis (multi-user, multi-sensory VR Installation) by Polymorf, I am a Bastard (linear TV documentary / 55 min.) by Ahmet Polat, and The Imaginary Friend (interactive VR live-action & animation) by Steye Hallema. Recently, her VR project Lacuna was selected for the Immersive Competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Prof. dr. Joost Raessens holds the chair of Media Theory at the Faculty of Humanities, Utrecht University and coordinates the Horizon Europe-funded project STRATEGIES: Sustainable transition for Europe’s game industries (2024-2028). Within this project, he researches the impact of games, game AI and extended reality on the climate crisis. More generally, Raessens explores how immersive experiences such as Games and XR for Change contribute to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

Finally, Jann de Waal is the CEO and owner of Info.nl, a digital product and platform development agency, and a figurehead of the Top Sector Creative Industry.

Furthermore, the interim Steering Committee members Mieke Dols, Johannes van der Vos, Bart Ahsmann and Paul Thewissen were greatly thanked for their services.
