CIIIC strengthens governance with further development of the Advisory Committee and expansion of the Advisory Board
The Ministry of OCW and CIIIC have further developed the governance structure of the program and clarified the roles of the various actors within the organization.
The CIIIC Advisory Committee ('Begeleidingscommissie' in Dutch, formerly the steering group; not to be confused with the Advisory Board ('Adviesraad' in Dutch) will have a more pronounced signaling role towards the Ministry of OCW and the executing organizations. Members of this committee operate autonomously and with sufficient distance. Therefore, OCW asks the members to actively forgo the opportunity to submit applications within the program.
At the same time, the Advisory Board is being expanded to 24 members, strengthening the substantive connection with the IX field and improving the balance between IX creators and researchers.
"With this further development, we are creating a governance model that does justice to the innovative nature of CIIIC. The Advisory Board is growing into a powerful body of 24 members, with eight from education & research and eight IX creators. This balance ensures a strong connection with the field and broad substantive input for the program,” said Jann de Waal, interim chair of the Advisory Committee.
Because the proposed steering group members Yannick Boers and Corine Meijers wish to make use of the opportunity to submit applications to CIIIC, they will not join the CIIIC Advisory Committee, but rather the CIIIC Advisory Board. This allows them to contribute substantively to the program and further strengthen the voice of the IX creators.
A new selection procedure will be set up this fall to recruit new members for the Advisory Committee, more information on this will follow later.
Joost Raessens, previously a prospective member of the steering committee, will join the Advisory Committee. He is a professor of Media Theory at Utrecht University and project coordinator of the Horizon Europe project STRATEGIES: Sustainable Transition for Europe’s Game Industries.
Expansion of the CIIIC Advisory Board with four new members
Due to the new positioning of the Advisory Committee, the Advisory Board is also enabled to effectively perform its role. We welcome 4 new members who will officially start at the next meeting on November 11. These are the new members:
- Rosanna Nazir is the founder of the Foundation Women at Work and has over 20 years of experience in ICT with companies such as Cisco, IBM, and Kyndryl. From the perspective of clients, Rosanna will particularly focus on diversity and inclusion within the IX field.
- Remco Hoogendijk is the Innovation Manager at the Sint Maartenskliniek. In his work, he focuses on the implementation of new technologies such as Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, eHealth, Sensor Technology, and 3D printing and thus represents the perspective of IX applicators. Remco is also the chairman of the XR4Rehab Association.
- Corine Meijers is the founder and Creative Producer at Studio Biarritz. As an IX Professional and creator of various award-winning productions, Corine has personal experience with all the challenges that creators face.
- Yannick Boers is the founder of Boldly XR and fills the perspective of IX Professional/creator as a creative digital agency that creates impactful digital experiences on behalf of third parties.
The Advisory Board has a sounding board function and is the link between CIIIC and the IX field. The Advisory Board provides both solicited and unsolicited substantive advice to the CIIIC program team, with the aim that the substantive lines, activities, and results of CIIIC align with the needs in the field. The Advisory Board does not advise on the evaluation and allocation of project proposals submitted in calls. For this, the executing organizations have their own (independent) evaluation committees.
